Save the crabs… then eat them

Fishing effort is one thing, but maintaining the integrity of estuarine and nearshore aquatic habitats is another. Land and catchment practices have a profound impact on the these environments. A new campaign called Home River Ocean, seeks to connect the south west communities of Western Australia with their waterways and illustrate that small and simple changes in our homes, gardens and everyday lives can make a big difference. The first big tip for urban residents is ‘Hold off the fertiliser till Spring’. Smart advice considering lawns don’t need fertiliser during winter and any fertilising is just wasting the home or business owner’s hard earned money and contributing unnecessary nutrients to waterways. Check out their video below.
